...or does it??
they* say 'a watched pot never boils'… to that i say 'lies!!'
ive watched.
i have a glass tea pot that boils water every morning for my coffee or cacao and most evenings for tea of some blend
at the end of February, i had a sinus infection that clogged up my ears. i could barely hear for a couple of weeks (incidentally, to date, they still have not completely cleared for any length of time)
prior to my temporary deafness, being highly sensitive, i could hear a butterfly land on a cotton ball
the kickoff of my morning ritual is to fire up said teapot on the gas stove and then head off to brush my teeth or take my vitamins, move laundry out of the dryer or clear dishes from the sink; generally being productive while waiting to hear the water begin to boil; then pouring my morning bevy for meditation & journaling
like clockwork, i'd be in stillness after having made a couple small checkmarks, a few sips of hot drink, and ready for a beautiful day!
the morning after my eustachian tubes inflammed & filled up, i got lost completely. i woke up with the sun, as i usually do, however couldnt hear the street noise, the wind blowing by my window, the clock ticking from the other room or my feet touching the floor walking to the kitchen. i didnt hear the click of the stove, the 'poof' of the flame igniting or the butterfly landing on my patio table. i went to brush my teeth and then turned on YouTube to try and figure out how i could unclog my ears, having to turn the volume up to 30, when i usually listen at around 8. i did some of the exercises from a chiropractor and actually got a tiny bit of relief when i went back to the kitchen to see the water boiling out of control. i had completely forgotten that i'd turned it on.
many many days went by that i couldn't hear the water boil so one morning i decided to use my eyes so i could get a sense of the stages & timing to look for rather than hear…
as the water first begins to warm, everything is very still
then the glass above the water line fogs up a bit
as it gets warmer, some condensation begins to form in the fog
tiny bubbles start to grow & release at the bottom of the pot
a drop or 2 of condensation rolls down the side and creates a minor ripple on the water surface
the tiny bubbles begin to expand & float up while more condensation flows down
steam rises & begins to escape the spout
and soon, everything is rolling in a virtuous circle pattern within its glass boundaries
a watched pot boiled 🙂
💧what is bubbling up for you in this moment?
💧where is there routine (dare i suggest 'stagnant'?) energy in your mind, body, heart, soul that could be nurtured with tiny movement?
💧or where is there an excess of energy that could be released into stillness & quiet?
💧how can your perspective begin to evolve, or shift completely from one sense to another?
💧who is it you want to become…?
our energies are in constant flux between internal and external sources. as they build, drifting to the surface of our consciousness, we have a choice…
> we can disconnect the (heat) source
> or we can allow the energies to bubble out of control
> or we can observe & manage energies as they come and go
you might be saying 'well i dont have a glass pot or 8 minutes and 42 seconds (yes i timed it) to watch water boil'
to that i say 'ok, find 1 minute'
then spend that 1 minute in observation. observe anything at all…
the scent of your pillowcase as you take your first waking breath
the sound of your feet touching the floor when you get out of bed
the stretch/creak/opening of your body moving towards your first action
the sight of a butterfly floating by your window
the feel of steam rising towards your face from freshly poured coffee
💫
what is the life you are stepping into, today?
who is it you are becoming, right here & now?
💫
observe. become aware. take a step. be.
holding space for you in love & light,
*and ps. who are 'they' anyway?? ;)
