stoking the inner fire

at the summer solstice i sent out an email/post about how winter is my most favorite season and that summer was actually my 'hibernation' time

i wasnt quite sure how i was going to handle this season… summertime Chi (iykyk) is saturated with festivals, shows, events, activities and i actually was already calendared for several. it was feeling a little daunting and i was already experiencing 'pre-guilt' for the amount of beer & fried foods i would be consuming; the number of nights i would sleep less than my desired 9-hours (yes, and 10 is better); and the levels of energy this introvert would be expending, even if everything i was doing was fun

so i set 2 intentions:

  1. stoke my INNER FIRE to temper the external heat

  2. ask myself at each opportunity: will this bring me pure joy?

    1. *side note this has now evolved to: will this bring me pure joy now, AND tomorrow :)

ironically one of my favorite wintertime joys is sitting by a wood-burning fireplace/pit… either with a book, friends, coffee, wine, a blanket… for me the fire represents more than just the welcomed heat… it's the vision, the sounds & scents, the lessons that can be learned from the sacred element

as i meditated on my 'inner fire' i envisioned one of these wood-burning fires and how i have many times created them myself…

carefully stacking the logs & placing the kindling

striking & smelling that first match

watching tiny flames and puffs of smoke form and grow

hearing the crackles begin, then pops, then roars

lastly just enjoying the burn

until it begins to fade

and then the first stoke…

once the log has reached its peak burn, the flames become less intense

poking at them causes embers to fall off, sparks to flutter up, ashes to float all directions

using a bellow provides required air…fanning the ashes and giving life force to the diminishing flames

sometimes, from those seemingly dying logs & embers

new flames are born

from the inside

out

  • do embers need to fall out of your life to allow your inner flames to reignite?

  • is there an excess of ash that is snuffing out your creativity or openness to possibility?

  • what opportunity can you create to fan even the tiniest of flames from within?

i continue to align my analogy to life daily

when you're ready to fan your flames, let's chat xxx
